Lesson 2: The Problem Begins
2. Can an environment get sick?
|
This lesson is comprised of three individual activities that are geared to further your understanding of the variety and sources of ecological threats, the differences between human impact and natural disasters, and acute vs. chronic environmental problems. So lets get started!
Chapter 1
Whats that smell? Field Work - Students
Teacher
*This activity relies heavily on concentration and observation. Even though this activity is being done within your groups each student must fill out their own individual field journal with observational data. This means that while it is important to collaborate with your other group members, it is also equally important to find your own areas away from each other where you can look, listen, feel, and smell the habitat around you. Use all of your resources to investigate. Close your eyes and listen to the sounds, smell the scent of the air, feel the textures of the earth and bark on the trees. Try to connect with this area and truly become a part of it... just don't put the nature in your mouth! Chapter 2 Our Habitat...Miniaturized! Activity - Students
Teacher
*Once completed proceed to the "Online" portion of Lesson 2. Chapter 3 Is That a Three Legged Frog! Online - Students
*Blog posts are due the day after completion of the Field Work assignment. There is no minimum length on posts and creativity is encouraged. *After the submission of the blog posts the students will partake in a collaborative online Concept Map through SmartDraw in which they will attempt to make connections between pollution factors and thriving environments. See instructor for details. |
